About Horizons Wood

From my first projects in Malaysia to my new workshop in Auckland, Horizons Wood is the story of a lifelong love of woodworking and handmade creation.

My Story

A Lifelong Interest in Wood

My interest in woodworking began when I was four or five years old. I remember watching my uncle use a planer on a piece of timber. Seeing the wood change beneath the tool stayed in my memory and began a lifelong interest in making things from wood.

That childhood memory stayed with me. Many years later, I finally picked up my own tools and began creating.”

From Malaysia to New Zealand

During the COVID period in Malaysia, I bought a few tools and began experimenting with small wood-and-resin projects. As I learned, I gradually added more tools and created candle holders, tea boxes, chessboards, coasters, trays and tabletops.

When I moved to New Zealand, I brought most of my tools with me and continued developing my skills.

A New Chapter in Auckland

After moving to New Zealand, I discovered WomenzShed, a women-only workshop. I attended workshops there, gained more practical experience and continued building my confidence.

I am now preparing a small workshop in my backyard in Auckland. My goal is to create handmade pieces that people can use, enjoy and give as meaningful gifts.
